Host Accommodation

Frequently Asked Questions

We can arrange host accommodation to provide a fully immersive experience giving you the opportunity to learn more about local culture and give you further opportunities to develop your language skills.

You will find a lot of information about our Host Accommodation in our Guide to Host Accommodation. The most common questions we are asked are the following:

What type of hosts are available?

We are not able to guarantee the structure of the family that you would be allocated, however, we are able to take preferences when you book. We will do our best to fulfil your requirements. That said, our students are often surprised by how welcoming our hosts are and sometimes, the preconception of what you would look for in a host is very different to what students would say when they return from their travels. Some hosts are single people, some are couples, some have children living at home some do not.

How do you ensure that the hosts are appropriately vetted?

Our hosts are arranged via an agent who has a local coordinator in each city in which we have hosts. Each host and all adults in the household, have the local equivalent of a DBS (police clearance) and are visited to ensure that the room and accommodation in general are welcoming and appropriate.

How will I get there?

We are able to arrange flights and transfers or advise so that you can arrange these independently.

How long can I stay?

Each trip is tailor-made so you can travel on any day you like and return on any day you like – many students consider the cheaper days on which to travel and may go midweek to midweek. It would be expected that you arrive during sociable hours ideally (08:00 – 20:00).

What food is provided?

We have various hosts. Most are happy to provide flexible catering which could include, breakfast only, half board or full board. Self catering is available with some hosts or you may opt for no food provided and make use of local cafes and restaurants. Special dietary requirements can be catered for but may cost a supplement.
