Location

Lyon is a scenic city located on the confluence of two rivers, Rhône and Saône. After Paris and Marseille, it is the third largest city and the second largest student city in France. The city is split into 9 arrondissements, each with their own charm. The 5th arrondissement is most popular for tourists because of landmarks like Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, a 19th century Basilica and Théâtre Gallo Romain de Lyon- Fourvière, a Roman theatre.

Alongside the architectural landmarks, the city has been significant many times in history; from being the capital of the Gauls in Roman times, home to the Lumière Brothers the inventors of the cinematograph and an important area for silk production.

Located in the 6th arrondissement, the top-rated language school is situated in the centre of the city near the Parc de la Tête d’Or. Being a 5-minute walk from the closest underground station, the school is well connected to the rest of Lyon. The school has 16 air-conditioned classrooms, a cafe and a foyer with studying areas. It is a highly accessible school with ramps and can facilitate those who are harder of hearing or sight.

Language Course

This language course package is taught in 2 components:

• 20 General French lessons (45 minutes each) which concentrate on learning and actively using French. During these core lessons you will participate in group sessions alongside other international students of all ages but a similar level, with lessons focused on improving all aspects of the language; speaking listening, reading and writing.

• In addition, there are a further 6, 1:1 lessons with content and focus specifically tailored to your requirements. We will ask you before you travel what you would like to cover with your tutor during these individual sessions, for example, grammar, conversation, translation, economics, literature or history.

This course is designed for students who wish to learn or improve their French, meet new people and have some free time to participate in French culture and life in Lyon. 

You will be given a written assessment before you travel and a speaking assessment on the first morning before lessons in order to place you in the group most suited to your ability level. Classes have an international flavour and a lively feel because they are grouped by ability not nationality or age. 

Optional Social and Cultural Programme

The school offers free activities during the week such as guided visits to area of Lyon, museums and food tasting to name some examples, most of these activities are free but some may cost a small entry charge. The school also offers further activities and longer full day excursions at the weekends which are available at a cost, and you can book through reception during your stay. You will be introduced to the activities as part of your induction on your first day.  These activities change weekly.

Accommodation

For students wanting to completely immerse themselves in the French language and culture we recommend that you stay with one of our carefully selected French host accommodations. They will not only introduce you to the French way of life and help you practise the French language but will also give you a taste of local and delicious regional specialities. Host accommodation is situated within 45 minutes total journey time to the language school. Half board accommodation is provided (breakfast & evening meal) from Sunday evening meal before your course starts to Saturday breakfast after it finishes. Subject to availability, an extra day on one side of your trip may be possible on request to facilitate flight dates.

Special diets can be accommodated, these often require a supplement. Please specify details upon booking so that we can meet your needs. 

Transfers

Transfers can be arranged for a fee on request from Lyon Airport or from any of the 5 Train Stations to your accommodation on arrival and/or departure. These transfers may increase in price if booked out of usual times (10pm-8am). Alternatively, we can provide directions and all the details you need to use public transport.

School Closures

The school will be closed on 01/11/2024, 11/11/2024, 23/12/2024 - 06/01/2025, 21/04/2025, 01/05/2025, 08/05/2025, 09/06/2025, 14/07/2025, 15/08/2025, 11/11/25 and 21/12/2025 - 03/01/2026. The school does not hold classes on closed dates and there is no refund for missed lessons.
