Location

Learn French at our language school in Nice in the beautiful French Riviera. Situated in the city while being just 10 minutes walk from the beach, in Nice you really do get the best of city sights and conveniences coupled with the beauty and relaxation of the beach. Surrounded by its own garden, where you will be able to relax at break times, the modern, well-equipped French language school is right next to local shops, the beaches and the old town.

The language school building has its origins in the late 19th Century and has been beautifully renovated to provide light and airy classrooms, all with air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. The school also boasts a full computer suite, library, private garden with patio area and a lounge area where students can relax in between lessons.

Language Course

The A Level Revision course is aimed at students in Year 12 or 13 who want to improve their knowledge, understanding and execution of French and develop strategies to prepare for their exams.

The tuition is very much practice oriented. You will participate in group sessions alongside other students of a similar level, with lessons focused on improving all aspects of the language; speaking listening, reading and writing. There are 4 classes of this type per day and these generally take place during the morning though during busy periods these classes can alternatively be placed in the afternoon.

Your remainder lessons are reserved for exam techniques and text analysis. This is also part of the next day’s work to be corrected and analysed by the teacher. A range of text material is used in lessons, all of which deals with French literature and civilisation and there is a mock exam, an oral or written test, at the end of the course on a theme of your choice. We will ask you before you travel if there are any areas in particular that you would like to cover with your tutor.

You are expected to spend 1 to 2 hours per day after lessons on homework and preparation.

You will be given a written assessment before you travel and a speaking assessment on the first morning before lessons in order to place you in the group most suited to your ability level. Classes have an international flavour and a lively feel because they are grouped by ability not nationality or age.

Optional Social and Cultural Programme

The school offers a range of social, sporting and cultural activities including: salsa evenings, tapas evenings, karaoke evenings, cheese tasting workshops, cooking workshops, beach volleyball, segway tours, boules, bowling, visits to other local towns like Antibes, Monaco and Cannes and trips to the Matisse, MAMAC and Chagall art galleries.

Accommodation

For students wanting to completely immerse themselves in the French language and culture we recommend that you stay with one of our carefully selected French host families. They will not only introduce you to the French way of life and help you practise the French language but will also give you a taste of local and delicious regional specialities. The host families are situated near to the school and provide half board accommodation (breakfast & evening meal) from the Sunday before your course starts to the Saturday after it finishes. Subject to availability and at a small surcharge, an extra day on one side of your trip may be available on request to facilitate flight dates. You can read more about what it means to stay with a host family in our Guide to Host Families.

Students of 18 years or older also have the option of staying in a single room in one of the school residences with other international students. The residences offer shared kitchen and bathroom facilities and meals are on a self catering basis. Please enquire for availability and prices for a residence stay.

Transfers

If you select to stay with a host family, they offer a free pick up service on arrival at Nice Airport. For other transfers, the tram line 2 runs frequent services from Nice airport into the city centre (approx €1.50). We are happy to offer details for travel on public transport on request.
